Online Casino 32Red Donates to Injured Jockeys Fund

by | May 19th, 2009

Multiple Best Online Casino award winner 32Red.com announced today that they will celebrate Ryan Moore’s 32nd win in the 32Red.com Flat Jockey Championships with a £1,000 donation to the Injured Jockeys Fund.

32Red Chief Executive Officer, Ed Ware commented, “32Red Online Casino is delighted to be the first sponsors of this prestigious racing accolade and it’s with pleasure that today we announce a £1,000 donation to the Injured Jockeys Foundation on behalf of Ryan Moore to mark his 32nd win in the 32Red.com Flat Jockeys Championships. We look forward to the remainder of the flat season and wish the best of luck to all jockeys.”

Championship leader, Ryan Moore said, “I’m delighted to reach 32 winners so quickly in the season. Its fantastic news that 32Red are donating to the IJF, which is obviously a cause close to my heart. I’ll be trying my utmost to be Champion again this season and I’m currently on course to achieve it.”

The Flat Jockey Championship 2009 is a competition won by the flat jockey who achieves the most winning rides on flat and all-weather race courses from 22 March to 08 November, 2009. Last year’s champion was Ryan Moore, who managed to ride 186 winners in the 2008 flat season.

Professional Jockeys Association, CEO, Josh Apiafi, stated, “The 32Red.com Flat Championship promises to be very exciting this year with the title being very open and within the reach of several of our leading Flat Jockeys.”

Ryan was the favourite as the stalls opened in March and with his win rate he will be hard to beat. The feature meetings at Epsom, Ascot and Goodwood could change things. With many races still to be run it would only take a winning streak from one of the other worthy contenders to make the finishing results look different.

Mark Quayle, Head of Marketing for 32Red Online Casino said, “The development of 32Red’s association with British horseracing has been cemented over the years by a number of race sponsorships, including the Group One 32Red.com Cheveley Park Stakes last season at Newmarket. The 32Red.com Flat Jockey Championships reaffirms this and we are proud that we can associate the best in racing with the best in gaming following our successful retention of the Best Casino award this year.”

Bwin Takes Over PokerRoom

by | April 17th, 2009

Bwin Interactive Entertainment is an Austrian company that operates under international and regional licences in countries like Gibraltar, the Amerindian reserve of Kahnawake in Canada, Belize, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Croatia, and the UK. The Group which has been listed on the Vienna stock exchange since March 2000 offers sports betting, poker, and casino gaming with most of it’s revenue coming from poker.

PokerRoom was one of the first online poker sites to provide multi-language support, today it caters to Danish, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Russian and Swedish speakers, these languages are accessed via ‘regional sites’ many of them showing local sponsoring for the selected region. PokerRoom has won industry awards such as Poker Site of the Year from the UK Gambling Awards in 2006 and Top Poker Software from the Online Gambling Magazine Awards in 2005.

Recently, PokerRoom.com players have been offered incentives by the poker room to transfer their accounts to bwin or simply cash out.

PokerRoom was one of the first online wagering sites to offer a total internet play format. With no download, it allowed customers to play anywhere on any computer. It was also one of the innovators of realistic avatars, something that is common place now but wasn’t there before.

Bwin’s take over of PokerRoom is a good move that will assure participants the same excellent play that PokerRoom provided. Being absorbed by bwin, the largest live and online gambling service provider in the world and the largest operator in Europe can’t hurt the PokerRoom reputation. When it comes to recognizable brands bwin takes the lead in sports sponsorship in Europe, also making great strides in keeping sports safe from the influence of gambling.

CryptoLogic Fortunes Vulnerable

by | April 17th, 2009

CryptoLogic’s former CEO, Javaid Aziz, demanded the firing of one board member. CryptoLogic then sent a letter to Mr. Aziz on February 22 and gave him until 5:00 pm Eastern Time on February 23 to advise the company of how he intended to address “deficiencies in his requisitions”. This has not  played out well on the online gambling global scene where competitor, Playtech, has taken full advantage of Cryptologic’s current vulnerabilities.

CryptoLogic Limited has with Marvel Entertainment created popular casino games and slots involving Marvel’s superheroes. A new deal between Marvel and Playtech allows the rival gambling software company to use the same characters that CryptoLogic once had exclusive access to.

Now the software and game developer has signed a new deal with DC Comics, bringing the superheroes known on an iconic basis not controlled by Marvel to the company’s games. DC’s Batman and Superman characters gives CryptoLogic the ability to transform all of our favourite superhero comic characters into casino games.

Playtech’s new arrangement with Marvel will upset CryptoLogic plans to corner the superhero cache.  Now Playtech can use such characters as the Incredible Hulk and the X-Men.

CryptoLogic’s deal with Marvel expires in 2010 and unless an extension can be agreed on, CryptoLogic now faces the possibility of aligning with DC against Marvel and Playtech. Alleged mismanagement has resulted in the software firm losing some of its key clients including William Hill.

Recently the company has release another round of new games continuing a period of aggressive activity for CryptoLogic, which has both released games and signed new licensing agreements at a rapid pace.

Brian Hadfield, CEO of CryptoLogic said, “”CryptoLogic’s branded casino games remain the bread and butter of our business and the keys to our profitability and growth in 2009 and beyond.”

Google U.K. Adword Policy

by | February 25th, 2009

The liberating move last year by Google UK (see previous Online-Casinos.com/InfoPowa reports) which saw the opening of Adwords bidding to online gambling companies, has been extended to allow UK affiliate marketers, enabling them to bid on gambling terms,” eGaming Review reports this week.

Google originally lifted its long-standing global ban on pay-per-click (PPC) advertising by UK gambling companies in November 2008, but affiliates were unable to enter the bidding for the top spots.

EGR reports that companies are currently making adjustments to relevant affiliate policies, including Google’s review of positive and negative keyword lists which show what and what not to bid on.

Tough Times May Cause Ohio Rethink

by | February 25th, 2009

According to reports from Associated Press, the governor of Ohio, Ted Strickland says he believes gambling is bad for the state, but he’s willing to entertain proposals to expand the pastime to bring in more revenue.

Strickland said Thursday that expansion would not be his preferred course of action but that he wouldn’t close his mind to ideas.

The governor’s anti-gambling stance has been one of his core philosophies. Ohio voters have repeatedly voted against putting slot machines at race tracks and allowing casinos, most recently turning down a proposed casino in western Ohio.

The state faces a projected $7 billion budget deficit in the next two-year budget.

Happy Ending For Lottery

by | February 25th, 2009

The story of the Canadian steelworker who thought he had won $135 000 on four $3 scratchcards, but lost out due to misprints (see previous Online-Casinos.com/InfoPowa report) had a happier ending later in the week as Ontario lottery officials relented and paid him an undisclosed settlement.

The National Post reported that the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation had reached a financial settlement with Thomas Noftall, following a media storm over the misprinted scratchcards, which the OLG only realised were faulty when “winners” started claiming their prizes.

After meeting with OLG representatives at their North York headquarters this afternoon, Noftall expressed satisfaction with the result.

?I feel a lot better than when I came in,? he told a large crowd of reporters and cameras. ?I can already feel my blood pressure is going down.?

Under the terms of the agreement, the amount involved will not be disclosed - and Noftall had to acknowledge that his ticket was not a winner.

Misprints on the latex film that players scratch off led Noftall to believe he had won a total of $135 000 from four ?Fruit Smash? tickets. A printing error meant the image on the latex did not match the cardboard below. The barcode on the card, which OLG rules state is definitive, indicated it had not won.

However, when he called the OLG after buying the ticket, to ask if they would honour his ticket despite the error, an employee told Noftall he would be paid.

An embarrassed Kelly McDoughald, the OLG?s CEO, explained that miscommunication prompted the payout. ?We have a record of misinforming him,? she said. ?In recognition of the grief that that caused him over the last few days, we have now reached a settlement.?

The National Post reports that since Noftall?s case came to light this week in media reports, 15 more people have contacted the OLG with similar stories. Ms. McDoughald urged anybody with concerns to come forward, but suggested they will not receive similar settlements.

?This is a unique situation … a review of all the other calls that have come in have suggested there has been no other miscommunication,? she said. ?It?s always very difficult to tell somebody who believes they are a winner that they haven?t got a winning ticket, but I don?t think the public wants us to pay for non-winning tickets.?

The printing error, which affected between 50 and 150 tickets, has prompted the OLG to recall all unsold tickets.
